Newcomers
Welcome
Sometimes when people think of a church, they think of uncomfortable pews, a little stained glass, hymns drearily played on an organ, and some minister giving a discourse on something no one will remember. They think of church as a duty and something that they just want to get over with so they can get on with the things they enjoy. Well this isn't that kind of church!
As a matter of fact, this church was started by people who wanted desperately to get away from that sort of thing. We had read in the Bible about the way churches used to be: people getting together and experiencing community; people genuinely taking care of each other; and the breaking down of racial prejudices, economic barriers, and social hatreds.
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. John 13:34 (NLT)
Jesus asks us to be a welcoming and loving church, a church that is compassionate and humble. The church is not to be an exclusive religious clique but a warm, welcoming, inclusive family with arms opens wide to all. A church should be a place where people don’t practice religion out of duty, but because of their passionate love of God! The Lafayette Vineyard is striving to be that kind of church!
We are simply trying to be followers of Jesus. He is our hero. We worship Him and want to be dedicated followers of him.
As God blesses us, we are to become a blessing to others. All around us are lost, broken, poor people, who need the resources that God has freely given the church. We are not to hoard, but be generous.
At our church you will find real people who face struggles and triumphs together; people who don't have all the answers, but are seeking them from God on a daily basis. You will find support and unconditional love. There is laughter here, sometimes sadness, but most of all, there is always wonder and awe at what God is doing.
Come and check out what the Lafayette Vineyard is all about. We’d like to personally invite you to come and be a part of it! We don't sit on benches and there is no stained glass. What we have here is a biblically functioning community; we don’t go to church, we are the church. Come discover what it feels like.
When you arrive, no one is going to single you out or ask you to stand up and give your name. Grab a free coffee, bring it into the Auditorium and relax. Here are a few things we usually do most weekends...
Worship
We sing some simple songs to God each weekend. Some people like to stand the entire time, but feel free to have a seat anytime. The important thing is connecting with God.
Giving
We worship God by giving back to Him a portion of what He’s given us. We do this through an offering collected at the end of our season of worship, because we believe that giving to the ministry of the local church is part of our worship. We also provide offering boxes in the back of the sanctuary and online giving options.
Break
We take a short break after worship and before the message.
Message
Our speaker will give a 30-45 minute message about applying God’s truths to life’s challenges.
Ministry
We end most services with an opportunity for everyone who needs prayer to receive ministry.
May the presence of Christ be yours in abundance. We look forward to meeting you.
